Josiah

Josiah Elliot
He shall not be put to shame
When he speaks with his enemies in the gate.
--Psalm 127:5b

Josiah Tsubasa (翼) Elliot was born on 1 February 2012 in the bedroom of our apartment at Wycliffe College, University of Toronto.  At noon his mother was visiting the Royal Ontario Museum and by half past one he was born.  Fortunately the walk home was only about a quarter of a mile.  As is the case with his siblings, Josiah has dual citizenship and therefore carries both a Canadian passport (like his father) and a Japanese passport (like his mother).  In English he goes by Josiah, and in Japanese he goes by his middle name Tsubasa.

We named him Josiah in honour of the king of Judah who walked in the way of his father David and who finally tore down the high places.  We pray that, like King Josiah, our Josiah will do what is right in the eyes of the Lord and not turn either to the right or to the left (2 Kings 22:2).

His Japanese name "Tsubasa" (翼) is the kanji character meaning "wings."  It is our prayer that as a disciple of Jesus his walk with God will be characterized by Isaiah 40:30-31

30 Even youths shall faint and be weary,
   and young men shall fall exhausted;

31 but they who wait for the LORD shall renew their strength;
   they shall mount up with wings like eagles;
they shall run and not be weary;
   they shall walk and not faint.
